Dr. Philip Augustine is the Director of the Center of Excellence in Gastrointestinal Sciences at Rajagiri Hospital. A recipient of the prestigious Olympus Mitra Endoscopy Award, he is recognized as one of India’s leading gastroenterologists and an authority on pancreatic diseases.
He is a pioneer of therapeutic endoscopy in India and was among the first to establish therapeutic pancreatobiliary endoscopy in the country. Dr. Philip Augustine founded one of the most well-regarded medico-surgical gastroenterology units in India, known for its groundbreaking work in tropical pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer.
A former President of the Indian Pancreas Club, he also serves on the ICMR expert panel on Pancreatology. In 1995, he published the first authentic report confirming the existence of Crohn’s Disease in India.
In recognition of his significant contributions to the healthcare sector, Dr. Philip Augustine was conferred the Padma Shri in 2010.
